Book Shop Needs All Books

The Library Resale Book Shop needs fiction and non-fiction books of all types that are in good condition.

Sponsored by the Fountain Hills Friends of the Library, the Resale Book Shop shelves offer mystery, biography, history, military, Christmas, vintage, collectibles, children's and romance.

To donate large collections of well preserved books, ask at the Book Shop in the library lobby for assistance, or you can call Dennis Kester, (480) 734-7117 to make arrangements for pickup.

We did it!!  HB 2379 is being amended!

The campaign we mounted has been successful so far.  The levy limit language has been removed and instead language has been inserted that requires a public notice and majority vote before increasing a levy in a library district.

We are grateful to each of you who wrote letters, passed the information along, and did all you could to voice your opposition to this measure.  We stood up both as Friends of the Library, as well as private citizens.  This was the best of examples of what can happen when our citizens speak out.

Anne Hillerman, daughter of famed best-selling Navajo Mystery Series author Tony Hillerman, will visit the library on Tuesday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the Library Reading Lounge.

Hillerman’s  presentation, The Making of Spider Woman's Daughter: Tony Hillerman's Legacy" will not only focus on her own novel, Spider Woman’s Daughter, but Anne will also discuss the heritage of the novels her dad left his readers.  She will share her dad’s background and how it impacted his writing and also discuss the rules for living and writing that he left for her.

Anne’s novel Spider Woman’s Daughter debuted at number ten on the New York Times Best Seller list.  In it Hillerman returns to the magnificent Indian Country landscapes and to the beloved detectives her father created and developed for over 30 years.

Following her presentation Anne will be selling her novel for $25.  Also on hand will be copies of her non-fiction photo book about her dad and his favorite places, Tony Hillerman’s Landscape: On the Road with Chee and Leaphorn, for $30 and some maps of Hillerman country, $10.  She will gladly accept cash or check.

The Friends of the Library Board encourages everyone to become a member so that they can continue to pay for Author Visits, Front Porch Performances, and many more programs as well as support the Fountain Hills Branch Library.

Library “Friends” Membership Provides Community Services

Friends of the Library is pleased to announce that membership in the Fountain Hills Library Association (Friends of the Library) is easily available through PayPal, as well as other options, at this site. Just click on “Membership.” With no additional participation, a $15.00 membership supports and promotes library programs, new art and regular new library enhancements.

The Library Book Shop, located to the right as you enter the library, and sponsored by Friends of the Library, continues to be a cool stopping place for favorite books at a bargain price. Hundreds of hard cover, paperback, fiction, non-fiction and children’s books are available for browsing at your leisure. Also a new magazine rack has been purchased by the Friends of the Library for easy viewing.

A recent improvement funded by Friends of the Library (FHLA) is a new, sound system which enhances the enjoyment of programs at the library, such as the Authors Series and teen programs. Other popular library programs funded by FHLA are children’s and adult reading programs, art in the library, etc…

All this and more is made possible by your FHLA membership, donations and support of the Library Book Shop!
